That is the best way to discuss it. Could you describe the station and the problem you want to address first?
It is a manual assembly station. The operator installs several small parts, uses a handheld tool and then places the finished unit in a tray. Our main concern is that a required step may occasionally be missed.
Understood. Do you want the system to inspect only the finished unit, or do you also want it to follow the operation sequence?
The sequence matters. A final image does not always tell us whether the tool was used at the correct stage.
Then AI-SOP may be a suitable direction. We can define key states in the workflow and check whether the visual evidence matches the expected transition from one state to the next.
Would the operator need to press a button after every step?
Not necessarily. Some states can be recognised visually. For other steps, we may use an existing signal, a scan or a simple confirmation. The right method depends on what can be observed reliably at the station.
I am also concerned about delays. The station cannot wait for a remote server to respond.
Real-time analysis can run on an Edge AI computing unit near the station. That keeps the main decision loop local. The management platform can receive selected records and status information separately.
What would the operator see if the system detects an exception?
The line-side client can show the current step and a clear prompt. Depending on the agreed workflow, it can ask the operator to correct the issue, call a supervisor or record the event for review.
Can it automatically reject the unit?
That is possible only if the interface and control rules are approved and tested. We would not enable an automatic action by assumption. For the first validation, a prompt and an exception record may be safer.
What information can supervisors review later?
They can review configured events, timestamps, workflow status and retained images or clips, provided those records are included in the agreed data policy. The platform can also summarise exceptions by station or time period.
We have strict rules about video retention. We cannot keep all footage indefinitely.
That is fine. Retention can be limited by event type and time period. We should document who can access the records, where they are stored and when they are deleted.
Before we move forward, management will ask what improvement the system can guarantee.
At this stage, it would be premature to guarantee a figure. We first need representative material, stable observation conditions and agreed acceptance criteria. The validation should tell us which targets are reliable and where the limits are.
That is reasonable. What would you need from us this week?
A simple process description, the station layout, examples of normal and exception cases, and a list of available signals or interfaces. We should also know any restrictions on cameras and data access.

Yes. I will send the template and a validation checklist today. Once we review your material, we can hold a focused workshop and define a small, measurable scope for the proof of concept.
Before that workshop, I also need to explain the idea to our operators. Some may worry that the camera is being introduced to evaluate individual performance.
That concern should be addressed directly. The project purpose, permitted use of records and access roles should be communicated before collection begins. The system should support the defined process, not create an undefined employee-monitoring programme.
Would operators be involved in defining the workflow? They often know practical details that are missing from the written SOP.
Yes. We normally compare the written standard with observed normal practice and ask the process owner to resolve any difference. Operator feedback is valuable, but the approved process owner still confirms the rule used by the system.
How do we handle a prompt that the operator believes is wrong?
The client can provide a defined escalation or review action instead of forcing the operator to guess. During validation, disputed events should be labelled, reviewed and used to identify whether the issue comes from imaging, recognition or workflow logic.
If the SOP changes after the system is installed, do we need to rebuild everything?
Not necessarily. A controlled workflow change may require updated rules, samples or model validation, depending on what changed. The important point is to use version control, approval and rollback rather than editing a live process informally.
What should management review after the POC, apart from the recognition results?
They should review operator usability, response timing, data governance, maintainability and the effort required for production integration. A technically visible target is only one part of a workable solution.
That gives me a balanced message: we are validating both the recognition target and the way the solution fits the station.
Exactly. The workshop should end with a written scope, evidence plan, responsibilities and decision criteria. That way, everyone knows what the POC can demonstrate and what remains a separate production-engineering task.
