When people hear standardization, they sometimes imagine more paperwork and less flexibility. Why do strong manufacturers still invest so much in it?
Because a clear standard makes normal work visible. Without a shared baseline, teams cannot tell whether a result came from a good method, individual experience or simple luck.
But our operators often adapt when material or equipment conditions change. I do not want a system that punishes sensible judgement.
A useful SOP defines the expected method and the authorised exception path. It should make judgement safer, not pretend that every situation is identical.
Where does AI process supervision fit into that idea?
AI 过程监督如何融入这一思路?AI can observe selected steps, sequence and tool use, then record a deviation or prompt the operator. The process owner still decides what the standard means and how an exception is handled.
So the objective is not to monitor every movement?
Correct. We focus on operations that are important, observable and actionable. Monitoring everything would add noise, cost and unnecessary privacy concerns.
How does this support Kaizen rather than freeze the current method?
A stable baseline lets the team compare before and after. If a proposed method reduces variation or makes the task safer, the team validates it and then updates the standard.

Michael, our audit results vary by shift. The written SOP is the same, but supervisors interpret several steps differently. Before we discuss AI, I want to understand whether the real problem is the document, the training or the daily management routine.
That distinction matters. Technology cannot repair an unclear standard by itself. I suggest we map the actual work, compare it with the approved method and list where operators need judgement. Then we can separate missing definition, training gaps and observable deviations.
Some leaders want every movement specified. They believe more detail automatically produces consistency. Operators argue that excessive detail slows them down and ignores product variation. How do mature companies decide the right level of standardization?
They standardize the critical outcome, required sequence, safety boundary and known exception route. They do not necessarily prescribe every harmless personal motion. The standard should control meaningful variation while leaving room for authorised judgement where conditions genuinely differ.
That helps. Our biggest concern is a verification step that is sometimes completed late, after the product has already moved. The record says the check happened, but not whether it happened at the correct point in the workflow.
That is a process-compliance question rather than final quality inspection. We would need to observe the relevant state transition, identify the permitted timing window and agree what evidence is sufficient. A final image alone may not prove the sequence.
Could the camera simply watch the whole station and let a large model decide whether the work looked normal?
A broad model may help discover patterns, but a production decision needs defined targets and testable rules. We normally combine visual models with workflow logic. The model recognises a state or action; the workflow decides whether it occurred at the required step.
What should happen when the system sees a deviation during the pilot? Management is asking for an automatic stop signal.
For an early validation, observation mode is safer. Show a prompt, save the event and compare it with the supervisor's review. Automatic control should come only after the target, false-alert behaviour, interface ownership and recovery path are approved.
Supervisors also worry that the system will become a policing tool. They need operators to report unusual conditions rather than hide them.
The implementation message is important. Use the data to improve the process and training, not to judge people from one isolated event. Access, retention and review responsibility should be explicit, and operators should understand the exception process.
How does Kaizen enter the loop? If the system is configured around today's SOP, will every improvement require a software project?
Not if the workflow is designed for controlled change. The process owner proposes a revision, the team validates the new method, and authorised users update the workflow configuration. Model changes require additional review only when the visual target itself changes.
We need a result that senior management can understand. They will ask whether standardization improved performance.
Use evidence connected to the problem: frequency of late verification, number of reviewed deviations, repeat training needs and time required to investigate an event. Do not claim causation until the baseline, observation period and other process changes are considered.
For the first station, who needs to own the decisions?
The process owner defines the standard and exception path. Quality confirms acceptance evidence. Operations owns the response. IT or controls reviews interfaces and access. Our team validates imaging, models and workflow configuration with those owners.
Let us document one target: the verification must occur before transfer, a late check creates a prompt, and the supervisor reviews the event before the end of the shift. We will not connect a stop signal during the pilot.
That is a measurable starting point. I will prepare the observation checklist, sample-video request and decision log. Your team can confirm the standard, select representative shifts and nominate reviewers before the feasibility session.
